English in Taipei
Last Friday I had the opportunity to lead a lunchtime English class. It was a last minute thing – filling in where there was an immediate opening. A friend had put it all together and then couldn’t locate a native English speaker willing to take it on. So, rather than let it die on the vine, I agreed to lead for 4 weeks.
The English students are all students at TaiDa, the large university just around the corner from where we live. Not knowing anything about their level or ability, we just introduced ourselves so that I could discover what to prepare for the next three times we meet. It is basically just an “English corner” – a place where they can hear spoken English and speak English without fear or intimidation.
I had a good time and hope they did too.
