Photo Sharing Websites
Anyone using a photo sharing website that they are really wild about?
If so, please leave a comment and tell us the reasons why you love it. If there are any negatives please share those also.

I really like flickr, and I notice that a lot of people in Taiwan use Picasa. I think flickr is the most widely used though, and it has a convenient uploader that you can download to your computer. This allows you to upload a ton of photos onto your flickr page at once. Also, friends can easily download your photos off of your flickr page. I enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work!

I also prefer flickr. I don’t think there is any other option out there that works as well (but there are many who are trying.)

I also use and enjoy using flickr. Have used it longer than I’ve been blogging.
Several others–especially those with children–that I know use DropShots.
I like flickr for many reasons . . . and they now have it in Chinese too, so my students and friends feel more comfortable viewing my photos (unlike sites like DropShots).
It does depend on what you are looking for . . . what is your purpose? how many photos are you wanting to post online? does it matter if they are private or not? do you want them saved full size or is it ok for them to be shrunk?

Thanks for the feedback. I have a Flickr account and have toyed with it, I am sorta worried about the openness of it though. I’m not really concerned with the social aspect of my photos. I do like the ease with which you can post to a blog entry though. . . . Still testing

You can mark flickr photos as “for friends only,” “for family only” or “for both friends and family only.” But this requires people to sign in and use an ID and be labeled as a friend or family member. Something I don’t like about a lot of photo sharing sites . . . .BUT flickr now has a rather new item that allows you to “share a set” . . . you can mark all the photos in the set “private” and then photos are not seen by just any one and the set itself is hidden (if ALL photos inside are private). Then, if you “share the set” you can create a special link that allows anyone to view the set IF they use that link. What i like about this way is that they do not need to create an ID with yahoo/flickr in order to see private photos; all they need is the special link. Does that make sense?

OH . . .and private photos can still be put on your blog . .. just when people click through on the picture, they will get a message saying that they do not have permission to view the photo. . . .. AND, when you “share a set” it also gives you permission to share “all private photos” in your flickr stream or “share all photos marked for friends/family/both.” So, if you just took some new photos of a baptism, you could make that set plus all photos marked for friends visible to people using that special link . . . SO, if they wanted to surf around your stream they could also see other photos too. Kinda cool if you ask me.
