Taiwan is known as a hard mission field. If you walk down just about any street or alley and look into the windows of homes and businesses, you will see "god shelves" laden with idols and offerings of fruit and incense. An IMB worker in Taipei recently said, "Idolatry has blinded the people's ability to see The Truth."

Southern Baptist missionary efforts in Taiwan began in 1948 when Christian workers had to leave China. Since then, generations of Chinese believers and missionaries have labored faithfully — some of them for decades — all throughout the island. Taiwan now has 400,000 believers, 206 Baptist congregations, and many other churches. But tragically, only 2.7 percent of Taiwan's 23 million people have accepted Christ.

Despite 60 years of concerted Christian witness in Taiwan, many of her people are still walking in deep darkness. Workers are urgently needed for Tainan, Hsinchu/Chungli, and Taoyuan. If you sense that God might be calling you to share Christ in Taiwan, please write to: ripetoharvest@pobox.com.

"I was a little afraid of putting Wendy on the spot, but I asked her if she wanted to believe in Jesus. She stood up with tears in her eyes and said, 'Yes, thank you!' Everyone in the group exclaimed, 'Waaahhh!' The Holy Spirit was moving and giving them training I never could have!" "It has been very hot lately, and knowing the local McDonald's has air conditioning, we went out for supper. (Our infant daughter) was being her usual energetic self and a little loud. Our efforts to quiet her were failing, but then she burst into song singing 'Jesus loves me, this I know.' We decided to let her sing. It seemed like most people thought she was cute, and we felt guilty telling her to stop singing His praises. We thank our Father for blessing us with children, and we ask that they continue to praise His name throughout their whole lives!"

China's New Generation

China's youth have been labeled "The Bird's Nest Generation". Official media is using the term to refer to those aged 10 to 29, about one-third of China's 1.3 billion people, who grew up during the nation's seven years of Olympic preparations. This group has often been referred to as "Little Emperors" due to the one-child policy that some feel has resulted in a generation of spoiled children.
